While tasting our way through the Brew Madness beers, the need for sustenance was required after we finished off the Fast Flyer Cream Ale in our flight. On a rainy Georgia night, craft beer and comfort food is just what the doc ordered in an old cotton gin-turned-brewpub.
In keeping with our beer quest for the month of March, we tried the German staple of pretzel bites and BEERcheese (another German staple—hops). While the pillowy poofs of dough were chewy and salted perfectly, the cheese was a show stopper. It rivals the Franks Hot Sauce tagline, “I (would) put that Sh*t on everything.” And that’s exactly what we did—we asked for another bowl and used it to top our burger and dip sweet potato fries, onion rings, etc.
Another not-to-be-missed menu item is the Deluxe House Mac & Cheese, made with cavatappi pasta topped with seasoned ground NY strip steak, bacon, fresh pico de gallo and parmesan cheese. (And we are pretty sure the beer cheese is the base sauce to this mountain of goodness.) If mac & cheese isn’t heavy enough already, this hearty portion is enough for two to share and soak up the flights of beer…or make you explode from carb overload.
The onion rings are equally delish, but onion rings from another kitchen already have their own paragraph somewhere else in this issue. So we won’t rave but challenge you to try both and decide for yourself who has a better onion ring!
