Foodie Friday

Have you ever tried traditional taiyaki? If not, try something new on this #foodiefriday by heading over to the Super H Mart in Duluth. Along with having a huge selection of Asian food from produce and bulk items to live seafood and top-rated meats, Super H Mart also has a food court with vendors. One vendor in particular sells traditional taiyaki, which is a popular street food item in Japan named after a type of red sea bream fish.

This dessert-like item is made up of a fish-shaped cake with a filling of either red bean paste, custard, or other delicious fillings. The taiyaki is made to order so you can watch the magic happen from pouring the batter into fish molds to the finished product of an adorable fish-shaped dessert.

The taiyaki cake is almost like a hybrid between a waffle and a pancake, from its crunchy exterior to the fluffy and soft interior. It has a subtly sweet cake flavor that pairs well with the red bean paste filling, which has a sweet and nutty flavor, similar to a sweet potato. Give this delicious treat a try the next time you’re at the Super H Mart in Duluth and on your way out, pick up a copy of the DiG, which is located in their magazine section!
