The Fernbank Museum of Natural History has officially declared that this summer will be Dinosaur Summer. That could mean checking out a book on your favorite dinosaur or curling up to watch your favorite Jurassic Park movie. But if you’re serious about making the most of your Dinosaur Summer, then you need to check out Fernbank’s immersive film T.rex, museum nights and most of all — their new exhibit T. Rex: The Ultimate Predator.
The exhibit opens on June 13 and it will be the jewel of Dinosaur Summer until September 7. Come meet the Tyrannosaurus rex, the Mesozoic’s most fearsome carnivore and Hollywood’s deadliest star, but we’re leaving the fiction for the movies. At this exhibit, you’ll learn the truth about the iconic dinosaur through life-sized models, specimens and engaging interactive displays.
This exhibit is crawling with life-sized models and fossil casts of the tyrannosaur family, revealing how they evolved over millions of years, and featuring the Proceratosaurus bradleyi, the earliest known tyrannosaur. Once you’ve met the extended family, get ready to take a deep dive into the life of a T. rex. See for yourself how it grows from a small, fluffy hatchling to a towering apex predator. Then take a closer look at this predator’s brain using scans, casts and models.
Get lost in the Mesozoic era with immersive experiences! See the difference in how a T.rex walked and ran using a praxinoscope. Then explore how a T. rex may have sounded with the “roar mixer.” Best of all, see a full-scale skeleton spring to life and interact with an animation of a T.rex that responds to visitors’ movements, in an immersive shadow theater.
If you’re looking for good old-fashioned fun (and I mean OLD), then come discover T. Rex: The Ultimate Predator. Dino-devotees, young and old, should not miss the opportunity to give our fearsome friend some love. After all, he waited over 66 million years to see you! Purchase your tickets today and get ready for the ultimate Dinosaur Summer!
