Turn that frown upside down— we don’t mean the mood! The annual Bluesberry and Beer Festival had residents and visitors alike roaming about a blued-out Betty Mauldin Park, devouring all the blues, blueberries and beer they could handle while enjoying various aspects of the festival. Whether it was a child hearing classic songs for the very first time with grandpa, or an over-21 relishing the specialty blueberry flavored drinks from local restaurants, everybody at the festival seemed to be having a fa-blue-lous time!
BLUES…
The music lineup sent out good vibes and blue the crowd away (see what we did there?)! The Cazanovas beautifully blended each of their musical backgrounds together to harmonious effect. Up-and-coming star, Cody Matlock, was another wow act. Pairing his talented guitar skills with a unique voice, 21-year-old Matlock puts on a show that’ll leave you thinking, ‘Man, this kid is going somewhere!’ Other featured acts included Colin Alvarez, Little G Weevil and The Blue Heats.
…BLUEBERRIES, AND BEER!
Violet Beauregarde (aka, Willy Wonka’s blueberry girl) would have felt quite at home among the many blueberry dishes and beverages that were being served by local merchants.
For those of you 21 and over, there was a plethora of specialty cocktails and beers for the occasion— from Blueberry Margaritas and Mohitos to Blueberry Wave Vodka Refreshers, if you like blue drinks, this was the place to be.
But there were plenty of mouthwatering, blueberry-themed treats for kids to stuff their faces with as well! Your mama may have told you not to eat red burgers, but we’re bettin’ she never said nothin’ ‘bout blue! Pair the blue cheese burgers from 45 South Café with a scrumptious blueberry bread pudding from Chase’s Wingery and you have a very blue, very yummy feast for the ages.
