We DiG: A Cheery & Bright Date Night

By

The holidays are upon us and ‘tis the season for romance. We’d argue there’s no more romantic time of year than when the streets are aglow with strings of Christmas lights, fireplaces are lit nightly and the only way to keep warm is by snuggling under piles of fuzzy blankets. So hang the mistletoe, dust off your winter boots and get ready to hit the town for a cheery and bright holiday date night!

Stop 1: Ice Skating in Sugar Hill

Have an Ice Day, Sugar Hill’s ice skating rink, is open from November through February, and it’s a perfect holiday activity. Located right in the center of the cute, quaint and oh-so-cheery downtown Sugar Hill, an ice skating date at this rink feels like something from a Hallmark movie. Be sure to check out the Sugar Hill bakery for holiday-themed sweets, stop by Indio brewing for a buzz or grab a table at Rushing Trading Co for a caffeine refuel. Visit later in the day to see downtown all lit up with Christmas lights and decorations before the sun sets, or visit earlier in the day for some shopping.

Stop 2: Cut Down a Christmas

Tree in Lawrenceville

Not only do the grounds of Thompson’s Christmas Tree Farm look like a Christmas wonderland, but the majestic firs are all available for purchase! That is, as long as you’re willing to get your hands a little dirty. Whether you’re curious to see what cutting your own tree is all about or you’re looking to start a yearly tradition, Thompson’s Tree Farm is a perfect spot.

Stop 3: Taste Holiday

Chocolates in Duluth

After working up a sweat at the Christmas Tree Farm, you’re sure to be craving a snack. Downtown Duluth has an assortment of delectable date-worthy restaurants. After feasting on something warm and hearty, indulge in something sweet at The Chocolaterie on Main Street. With truffles, ice cream, fudge and other goodies, you’ll be sure to find something festive to satisfy your sweet tooth, but don’t leave after that! Be sure to grab a few boxes of their adorable holiday truffles to give as gifts and stocking stuffers when Santa comes to town!

Stop 4: Take a Carriage

Ride in Norcross

Did you know downtown Norcross offers FREE horse-drawn carriage rides through the city every Tuesday, Wednesday and Friday evening from December first through 23rd? For your last festivity, take in the sights and the hustle and bustle of downtown from the comfort of a cozy carriage. Make sure to bring a mask and blanket with you! Masks are required, and trust us, you’ll want a blanket once the sun disappears. Boarding happens from 6:30 to 8:30 p.m. in front of Taste of Britain downtown.
