TASTE TEST: SIAMESE BASIL

By

So my husband tells me one morning that he has a GREAT new place to take me for lunch… Fast forward a couple of hours and I find myself in front of a nondescript strip mall in Norcross and the BEST Thai food I’ve had in my life!

Siamese Basil is definitely one of the best Thai restaurants in Atlanta. It’s small, family-owned and nothing fancy when you walk in (the perfect example of a hole in the wall or diamond in the rough). Chef Chatchai brings a breadth of knowledge and experience from Thailand. He loves that he can share his passion for cooking through his creations. You’ll probably be served by Matthew, the owner’s son, who is a wealth of information about the menu and the food. He always checks your preferred level of spice and will bring out more spices for you to try.

Be sure to bring your appetite as you’ll want to order appetizers, soups, salads and a main course. We love the spring rolls which are crispy veggie rolls made with sliced cabbage, carrots, celery, bean thread and spices served with sweet chili dip. A must-try is the coconut soup made with sweet, aromatic coconut milk, chicken, mushrooms, scallions and cilantro simmered in lime leaves and lemongrass.

Our favorite main dishes are the Drunken Noodles: Thai-style noodles made with tomato basil sauce with large rice noodles, eggs, broccoli, string beans and onions, and the basil stir fry infused with basil leaves, bamboo, bell peppers and onions with your choice of meat. We also highly recommend the chef’s special Three Flavor Chicken is made with original crispy fried chicken sautéed in sweet, sour and spicy sauce on steamed veggies.
