Nothing completes a warm summer day quite like an afternoon walk, and Old Town Lilburn is the perfect spot with its rich history, local businesses and community events!
Strolling through Old Town, you’re greeted by the city’s charming restaurants and shops. Stop at 1910 Public House for farm-to-table food that does not disappoint! Start with their fried green tomatoes before taking down one of their juicy burgers, previously awarded Best Burger in Atlanta. With a full belly, it’s time for some shopping. Swing by Antiques in Old Town to explore rows of vintage treasures each with their own unique history. The antiques aren’t the only ones with a story to tell; the building itself is over 100 years old! It was constructed in 1911, but tragedy struck just a decade later. On November 15, 1920, a fire broke out, destroying all the shops and restaurants downtown. The volunteer bucket brigade sprang into action, saving the residential area of town and one downtown shop, the building where Antiques in Old Town now resides.
The next stop on your scenic stroll is The Bubbly Goat, where you can sip on a delicious variety of wines and cocktails like their Blood Orange Spritz! From here you can see another historic building at 57 Railroad Avenue. The building was originally a cotton gin, then it became a steel manufacturing plant. Today, the building still sports wrought iron detailing and spiral staircase, but it is owned by the Downtown Development Authority who has many ideas for how this historic space can best serve the community.
Your summer stroll concludes with a trip to Lilburn City Park, home of the Greenway, splash pad and countless events. On August 1, play after dark in the splash pad illuminated by neon lights at Glow with the Flow. Then on August 14, turn up for Lilburn Blue and You, a party where neighbors, police and first responders come together to celebrate, with patrol cars, fire engines, K-9 demonstrations and food vendors! Speaking of food, don’t forget about Lilburn’s monthly Food Truck Tuesday, on August 11, where you can indulge in savory bites, sweet treats, pop-up businesses and live music.
