Spooky Season in Sugar Hill: October Events and Fall Fun

Time to sharpen that sweet tooth and perfect those horror movie screams. The city of Sugar Hill has a jam packed schedule this October and everyone is invited to the fall festivities! Gather your favorite gals and ghouls and float on over to Sugar Hill to experience all the greatest treats and tricks of the season.

Ever dream of becoming one of the characters in a murder mystery? Imagine the tension, the drama, the utter spectacle—secrets hiding behind every mask, friends and foes—all are suspects. Now is your chance. Discover a world of intrigue this October and attend one of Sugar Hill’s most highly anticipated events, Mystery at the Eagle Theatre: Night at the Masquerade. This Murder Mystery Dinner will be held on Thursday October 8th and Friday October 9th, with doors opening at 5:30 p.m. and closing at 9:00, and will include a delicious dinner, artfully crafted disguises, and a dazzling evening filled with twists, secrets… and, of course, murder. Try and solve the mystery before the night ends or else the culprit will escape!

Upon arrival, guests will be welcomed into a cocktail hour (one free drink ticket is included in your purchase), followed by the real star of the evening: the mystery dinner. The menu will feature Italian cuisine, including an entree, dessert and complementary nonalcoholic beverage. There will be a full bar available, as well as plenty of theatrics and intrigue to ensure a truly unforgettable evening. Tickets for this event are already on sale and can be purchased online, so secure your spot at the table now (just make sure you have a rock solid alibi first).

It wouldn’t be October if there weren’t any treats to go with all these tricks! Luckily, the Sugar Rush Arts Festival is returning to Sugar Hill October 17-18, and bringing with it all the sweetness, art, entertainment and family-friendly fun that the heart of this community is known for. The festivities truly begin on October 16th with a free Sugar Rush Kick-Off concert at The Bowl at 7 p.m., where you can kick back and enjoy live music from Guardians of the Jukebox in the crisp fall air. On Saturday, the festival will be open from 10:00 a.m. to 7 p.m., and from noon to 6:00 p.m. on Sunday. Expect a lively scene of vendor booths, live demonstrations, performances, the Sugar Hill Arts Commission’s Juried Art Show, live music and more! There will also be a Kids Zone featuring performances by On The Stage Children’s Theatre and All Stars Performing Arts Academy, as well as gem mining with the Sugar Hill Historic Preservation Society, a petting zoo, inflatable bounce houses, slides and food trucks. Keep up to date with the latest festival news by visiting https://sugarrushartsfestival.com/, and feel free to come out and support your community in costume.

And, keep that costume out and ironed because Halloween is coming to Sugar Hill a little early this year! Bring the kids to Trick or Treat on West Broad St. on Friday October 23rd to celebrate spooky season in a safe, family-friendly environment where you and the kiddos can collect candy from local businesses and community groups. Dress up in your holiday best and come on out while supplies last! Then, visit The Bowl for a free showing of Beetlejuice and enjoy a night out under the stars.

After Beetlejuice, erase all you know about proper movie etiquette because Sugar Hill has one more very special treat in store for you this October. Watch your favorite stars come to life on and off-screen at the Eagle Theatre on Friday October 30th for this year’s showing of the Rocky Horror Picture Show! Experience a Time Warping night like never before as a live shadow cast performs iconic scenes, songs and dances from the hit 1975 movie as it plays on the screen behind them.

For those of you who are new to this cult-classic musical comedy, the Rocky Horror Picture show is all about a straight-laced couple, Brad and Janet, who stumble into a strange castle on a bizarre and stormy night. There, they meet Dr. Frank-N-Furter, a flamboyant and mystifying scientist (played by the late, great Tim Curry), and his eccentric ensemble of quirky companions. Famous for its outlandish humor, catchy tunes and highly interactive fan culture, the Rocky Horror Picture Show has remained insanely popular for several decades, with the way it entices audiences to dress up, shout lines at the screen and, ultimately, participate in the performance itself.

Each ticket will include a prop-filled goodie bag; audience participation isn’t only allowed, it’s encouraged, so please shout, throw and dance along with the show—just the way it was meant to be viewed!

The city of Sugar Hill looks forward to seeing all of you out and about this October, whether you’re festively in costume or not (don’t be afraid to don those Frank-N-Furter fishnets)!
