When Lee Fox was eight years old, he got his very own bicycle. A gift he had been waiting years for. That day, he vowed to never let a day go by that he didn’t ride his bike. “From that point on I can truly say my life has pretty much revolved around bicycles,” explains Lee. That promise not only led Lee to discover a passion for mountain biking, it eventually led him to open up three bike shops. One of those being Suburban Cycles, located right here in Gwinnett.
Lee opened the doors to the Buford bike shop alongside his brother, Tod, in June 2019. Since then, their business has experienced steady growth and continues to be one of the few spots Gwinnett residents can visit for virtually any bike or biking equipment need. The shop houses everything from balance bikes for toddlers learning to ride, to top of the line professional builds and even electric bikes. If you’re looking for a spot to break in that brand new bike, Lee recommends Harbins Park in Dacula. With 15 miles of trails at varying challenge levels, it’s perfect for any mountain biker. Yes, Gwinnett is a fairly flat county, but according to Lee “you don’t need mountains to ride a Mountain Bike, just trails.” And if you’re looking to ride with some more experienced bikers, both Suburban Cycles and their Commerce counterpart, State Street Bicycles, offer Saturday morning road rides beginning at 8am. Make sure to call ahead if you plan on participating.
