Sept/Oct National Days

By

Gwinnett is moving forward, and there is a lot to celebrate, like national hot cross buns day (Sept 11), moldy cheese day (Oct 9), orange wine day and national eat fruit at work day both on Oct 6…does drinking at work count for both? And lets not forget the obvious ones like National Taco Day on October 4th. But if you are feeling particularly festive, or want to get in on the trending # in a niche space, check out these pertinent weird holidays to celebrate.

September 19- National Talk Like a Pirate Day

Arrgh me matey and shiver me timbers to ye landlubber.  It all started when two guys in suits trying to lose weight decided to just start throwing pirate slang around the racquetball court after work (there is a lot more to the story you can check out here at talklikeapirate.com).  Come About and join in the fun. Tell your boss “aye aye captain” or while ordering your coffee in the drive-thru, ask if they have change for gold bullion. Take it a step further and visit Pirates Cove in Duluth for a putt-putt duel and looser walks the plank. Stay home and set sail from your sofa for a pirate themed Suwanee Fest virtual event on September 19th. KNOW A HILARRRRIOUS JOKE? Submit them online for a chance to win a state debut at the 2021 event.

September 25- National Comic Book Day

While typically National FREE comic book day is in May, COVID19 disrupted this prized day, but no fear, they’ve moved the freebie to encompass most of the summer (July-September) and extra emphasis on September 25 to honor the art, artists and the stories of comic books. To get in on the ACTION, visit Level Up Games in Duluth, or one of Galactic Quest’s two locations in Lawrenceville and Buford. New to this hobby? These guys will be happy to tell you all you need to know.

October:

There are a string of days in October that are dedicated to baring it all and going free.

No Bra Day on October 13, which is an awareness day for National Breast Cancer Month…so let those girls go free and be sure to get a mammogram at Northside Gwinnett’s Breast Center.

And who can forget Be Bald and Free (Oct 14) and National No Beard Day (Oct 18), ironically falling right before No Shave November. Listen up men, ladies DIG a smooth head and face, so make an appointment at The Boardroom Salon for Men in Peachtree Corners and take advantage of all the “loving” perks No Beard Day can bring you.

2nd Week in October – National Work From Home Week

National Work From Home Week during the second week in October recognizes the seven million people in the United States who don’t commute to work every day. Or maybe you started in March for Georgia’s stay at home orders…and haven’t gone back into the office.  Followed by National Boss’s Day on October 16th, which you better remember to say “Thank You” to your boss for allowing you to work in your jammies all day and the ability to sneak in a catnap when you’ve been up too late burning the midnight oil.
