As many know, at the tourism office, part of our mission entails finding Gwinnett’s best culinary destinations, off-the-beaten path favorites as well as keeping up with our burgeoning ethnic dining scene. Fortunately, we like any excuse to eat and drink, and you’ll see our passion for food driving many of our visitor marketing initiatives! Food is the heart and the soul of any visit or trip. It’s what you remember – not the hotel room or the conference center. The dining experience simply creates a memorable visit.
And one of our favorite culinary events is quickly approaching. Our 3rd annual “Burger + Brews Week” is back! It’s simple but awesome. Running from March 17-23, you’ll enjoy 7 days of $7 custom, a la carte specialty burgers (customized specifically for Burger + Brews Week), paired with a suggested beer (extra cost).
Many of our favorite restaurants are participating – including Local Republic, Ba Bellies, Parkside District, Parma Tavern, Restaurant 475, Tanners/Suwanee, Pub Ten, Uncle Jack’s Meat House, ART bar, McCray’s Tavern, Universal Joint, 1910 Public House, Ten Bistro and Rivals on Five. New participants this year include La Belle Vie in Suwanee and Tannery Row Ale House in Buford.
The burgers will range from the simply sublime house ground cheeseburger to the exotic – check out Parma Tavern’s offering, whose delicious burger features fresh angus, Jameson whiskey glaze, pepper jack, applewood-smoked bacon, fried pickles, garlic mayo, all layered on a yummy brioche bun.
Nope, Burgers + Brews is not a week for Whole30. And because the only thing we like more than food is beer, each burger will be paired with a (suggested) craft beer. And new for 2019, folks who eat will have the opportunity to vote for Gwinnett’s “Best Burger.” In a nod to March Madness, we’ll have “March Meatness,” where burger lovers can vote on their favorite burger (@ www.exploregwinnett.org), with the winners being narrowed down by burger bracket.
We’ll have great incentives to vote, including our new “Love, Gwinnett” t-shirts, Gwinnett trucker caps, and restaurant gift card giveways throughout the week. Look for our Burger + Brews mascot, Burgerhead, on billboards, social media and our new Burgerhead videos. Visit exploregwinnett.org/burgers-and-brews for all the details!
Our culinary initiatives aren’t limited to burgers and beer. We’re super excited that our 2019 “Seoul of the South” ™ Korean food + culture tours are kicking off with five public tours, scheduled for May 18, June 15, July 20, August 3 and September 14. From traditional Korean restaurants and markets to spas and karaoke, there’s not much you can experience in Korea you can’t also do in Gwinnett. Through our immersive Seoul of the South™ Korean culinary tour, you’ll learn all about the rise of this unique (and delicious) culture in Gwinnett.
The Seoul of the South™ Korean restaurant tour takes place at four local restaurants and bakeries. Throughout the tour, your tour guide, Sarah Park, will educate you on Korean culture, ingredients and dining customs.
And, you’ll eat. A lot. We aren’t kidding when we advise our guests NOT to eat breakfast before they go on the tour. Plus, attendees will receive a cool swag bag with Korean-centric items include K-beauty face masks, as well as Korean snacks, coffees and teas. And, at $50 per person, it’s the best culinary food tour value in Atlanta. Visit exploregwinnett.org/seoulofthesouth to book your tickets (move quickly, May is already sold out)!
