HIDDEN GWINNETT: ATLANTA KILTS

By

Asked the lass of your dreams to marry you? Getting geared up for senior prom? Just want to air out your undercarriage sometimes? It’s time to pay a visit to our mates at Atlanta Kilts for some truly unique festive wear that only the bold can pull off.

Founded in 2006 by owner and avid bagpiper Brad Beaton, Atlanta Kilts has successfully outfitted weddings, proms, festivals, films, memorial services and many other occasions with high-quality Highland attire.

Located on Buford Highway in Suwanee, Atlanta Kilts’ kilts are made from authentic wool woven in Scotland and England, as well as acrylic and denim for the Florida fans. They offer over 400 tartans, and will also work with you to create a unique custom design.

For those of Scottish ancestry, the kilt is a symbol of honor for the clan to which they belong. First worn by those who lived in the damp Scottish Highlands, the kilt was a manner of dress that allowed for freer movement. With its tightly woven wool, the kilt created a barrier between the rain and skin.

Supposedly, the pleated kilt offered additional protection to soldiers; when the nights became cold, the garment unfolded into a blanket. And if the army needed to move quickly, the easily removed kilt allowed greater freedom of movement (and likely quite a shock to the invading army).
