Gwinnett Selected for New Accessibility Transportation Program

A new mobile application known as the Georgia Mobility and Access Planner has just been launched! Also referred to as the G-MAP app, this brand-new application is making waves in the transportation scene by providing accessibility for all residents. Gwinnett County has been selected as one of four program sites nationwide to develop and deploy the app, giving new opportunities for all residents to feel safe and empowered when using local transportation.

By using pedestrian data collected with the Georgia Institute of Technology, the app is able to provide safe routes based on personal mobility needs and preferences. It will also incorporate connected vehicle technology and transit signal priority for Ride Gwinnett transit buses, which will connect travelers with safer interactions and smarter stress. It’s a great resource for individuals with disabilities, older adults and residents with limited English proficiency so they can feel safe while traveling and maintain their independence. Gwinnett County Board of Commissioners Chairwoman Nicole Love Henrickson shared that “The Georgia Mobility and Access Planner is an essential investment in our community, allowing anyone to travel safely, independently and with peace of mind.”

While the app is being tested in Gwinnett County, the vision for this application is to expand it across the region. In fact, Anna Roach, executive director and CEO of the Atlanta Regional Commission, shared, “Gwinnett County, with its rich diversity, is a great place to begin. But we can’t stop here. We must work to expand G-MAP across the region and throughout our state.” This sentiment rings true as the effort to ensure accessibility for all residents continues each and every day.

The G-Map app is free and available for residents to download! For more information, head over to Georgia-MAP.com.
