Grinch Goat Yoga

If you’re looking for a fun way to stay active this New Year, get ready to discover the world of goat yoga! It’s the perfect combination of furry animals, relaxing yoga and family-friendly fun, while sneaking in some cardio. Luckily for folks in Gwinnett, you can check out this exciting and adorable version of yoga at Double Durango Farm!

Located just outside of Gwinnett in Loganville, Double Durango Farm functions as a working farm with Nigerian Dwarf goats as well as goat yoga practice. The farm opened up in 1998, serving simply as a place for the owners to have some horses in their backyard. Soon, they found themselves with a plethora of miniature goats and since 2005, have switched operations to breed Nigerian Dwarf goats. Today, the farm offers a variety of services, including selling baby goats, crafting handmade products such as goat stands, private group tours of the farm and an immersive goat yoga experience!

As a resident yoga enthusiast, when I found out that Goat Yoga Georgia was only a short drive from my house, I couldn’t have been more thrilled! I took my mom to their holiday-inspired Grinch Goat Yoga class for some festive fun and it was such an incredible experience. After we arrived, it was a super quick check-in process before heading inside of the gated area to find a spot to lay out our yoga mats! If you happen to forget your mat or don’t own one, the farm offers $5 cash rentals for a yoga mat. They also have a table outside of the gated area where you can purchase handmade goat milk soap, a fun souvenir for your time on the farm!

Once you’ve claimed your corner, they have shelves and hooks set up for you to place your shoes and purses (out of sight and out of mind for the little goats). Since we had picked a special Grinch-themed class to attend, everyone was decked out in their best ugly Christmas sweaters and PJs! There was also the fun addition of the Grinch himself, who, while in a sour mood as always, was soon cheered up by the friendly goats waiting to be released. The class was led by an instructor from 3 Down Dogs Yoga, who explained that this was going to be an easy, entry-level yoga class. As someone who has prior experience with yoga classes, I can confirm that this was a super accessible yoga session. Once she made the introductions and we got started with some basic stretching, that’s when the miniature goats were released! They were dressed up as well in festive outfits, making their arrival even more adorable.

As the instructor led us through various poses, staff members guided the goats to each person (with a handful of tasty treats as a reward). The staff did an incredible job of making sure every yogi got a chance to interact with a goat during the session! Towards the end of the one-hour class, staff members headed over to participants who wanted to have one of the goats stand on their backs for a quick picture. While I decided to opt out of this portion, it was still an entertaining experience watching the staff members coax the goats to hop on for a quick pic.

Once the class ended, the staff were ready to take pictures of anyone who wanted one in front of the festive photo-op while holding a goat! I decided to give this a try and ended up holding onto a beautiful little lady named Wednesday. During this time, everyone was encouraged to stick around, interact with the goats and make the most of their experience. With my goat picture taken alongside my mom, we soon left the farm feeling a wave of happiness, along with a free voucher to take a yoga class at 3 Down Dogs Yoga!

Whether you’re a yoga enthusiast or simply looking for a fun activity to get your family outside, I strongly urge you to take a goat yoga class at Double Dourango Farm. Not only will you have a blast but it’s a great way to support a local farm in our community! For more information and to view their upcoming classes, which will start in late February, head over to their website. They will still be hosting private events in the meantime!
