Get A Hobby

Calling all Creatives!
The year 2020 brought long months stuck in our homes, which led people to develop new hobbies, interests and projects. Take the considerable increase in sourdough starter videos on social media for example. (No shame, though. We DiG homemade bread!) New podcasts emerged from quarantine, along with an increasing number of custom tees and merch. We love to see it. People tapping into their creativity, learning new skills and stretching their imaginations beyond the everyday grind is inspiring.

Learning Labs at Gwinnett County Public Libraries are increasing accessibility and ease of creating for anyone with an idea. Makers of all ages are welcome to utilize these well-equipped spaces designed with ingenuity in mind. From 3D printers and vinyl presses to podcasting equipment and design software, anyone can reserve time in the Learning Lab and get to work on their latest ideas and projects.

Currently, Learning Labs are available at the Centerville, Duluth, Five Forks, Hamilton Mill, Lilburn, Norcross, Peachtree Corners and Suwanee branches. Each space is free to reserve and use; simply bring your own supplies or pay for anything you use! More Learning Labs are planned for the future to bring makers across the country even more access to tools and resources essential to bringing those ideas to life.

So, whether you dream of recording your own music or starting a new hit podcast, GCPL has all creatives’ best interests at heart, making ingenuity, innovation and ideation possible for anyone brave enough to try.
