Nothing beats getting over the hustle and bustle of the holiday season like rewarding yourself with a well-served confection. Postern Coffee is an Asian American-owned coffee company that’s located just outside of Gwinnett in Doraville. What sets them apart from other spots is their dedication to incorporating vibrant Asian flavors into their drinks and desserts. While this may not be a Thirsty Thursday spotlight, let’s just say you need to order a coconut ube latte while you’re here (trust us, it’s incredible). Along with their delicious espresso-based drinks and matcha offerings, they also have a display case packed with decadent donuts. Not sure which one to choose? Our recommendation is to go for the yuzu hibiscus donut (thank you to the helpful barista whose advice was to choose this flavor).
Yuzu is an East Asian citrus fruit that you don’t often see in dessert selections in Gwinnett. The flavor of it is very similar to a tart lemon and fragrant grapefruit. When you combine this bright fruit with the floral notes of the hibiscus plant, you get an incredible donut combination that you’ll be thinking of even after you leave the coffeeshop! The donut itself is baked to perfection, with a light and airy interior that is balanced perfectly with the citrus and floral notes of the exterior. This, combined with a coconut ube latte, will give you the ultimate cozy afternoon to decompress from this week’s stress.
