If you’re looking for a fun and charitable event to check out in Gwinnett, get ready for Family Promise of Gwinnett’s 14th Annual Bed Race! Held this Saturday, April 26, participants from local businesses, organizations and groups will be battling it out with their homemade racing contraptions. This event, as shared by Carol Love, who is the Executive Director of Family Promise of Gwinnett, helps support homeless families in Gwinnett by raising funds and awareness of the issue of homelessness in our community.
Recent studies have shown that Georgia is currently ranked 15th highest in the nation for homelessness and Gwinnett County is ranked second in the state. This is a huge issue that affects residents in our Gwinnett communities, which is why the Bed Race event was formed. Family Promise of Gwinnett County has been around for 20 years now, helping families around the county by providing resources, mobilizing volunteers and hosting events such as this one. You may be familiar with their programs, including Promise Haven Shelter and Families Forward, which are open to Gwinnett residents to apply for. For more information on Family Promise of Gwinnett and their unique services, head over to their website!
All of the proceeds from this event will go towards services including emergency shelter, transitional housing, case management and more. On the day of the event, spectators should plan to arrive by 9:30 at the Historic Square in Downtown Lawrenceville to watch the race commence! Spectators are encouraged to bring lawn chairs and their furry friends along to watch the excitement from the sidelines.
Teams will face off to race their decorated beds with wheels for a day of family-friendly fun, all in the name of a good cause, too! Each group has its own unique theme for their beds and costumes. The schedule of events will include a Bed Parade, the race and an awards ceremony. Prizes will be handed out for categories including Fastest Bed, Best Construction, Best Theme, People’s Choice and the Highest Fundraising Team.
Come out this Saturday to help support homeless families in Gwinnett through a day of community-led racing fun at Family Promise of Gwinnett’s 14th Annual Bed Race!
