CITY SPOTLIGHT: SUWANEE

By

Welcome to Suwanee! Home to several distinctive parks, a dynamic public arts initiative and vibrant Town Center, Suwanee is consistently named as one of the nation’s best places to live. Suwanee residents and visitors enjoy 500 acres of parks, miles of walking and bike trails, concerts, festivals, dining and shopping.

HERE’S WHAT WE DIG:

RIDE THE TRAILS

Grab a bike from the city’s bike share program (the first in the county!) at Town Center or Suwanee Creek Park and go for a spin on the city’s extensive greenway system, featuring over 16 miles of interconnected multi-use, multi-medium trails. Bikes can be easily rented via smart phone app and rented for up to three hours for free.

BIG SPLASH

One of Gwinnett’s largest interactive fountains, Suwanee’s Big Splash interactive fountain features 43 jets and uses up to 1,400 gallons of recycled water per minute. The fountain is generally open 9:30 a.m.-9:30 p.m. seven days a week, weather permitting, from April 1-October 31. The fountain does close for certain events, so be sure to check Suwanee.com before coming

PARKS FOR KIDS FROM 1 TO 100

Have a little one? Try the swings, slides, climbing wall, magical bus, castle, elephant, rocket and more at PlayTown Suwanee – an incredible playground built by 1,200 community volunteers in just five days. Looking for a little less action? Head over to Harvest Farm and the brand new Orchard at White Street Park for a peaceful walk through the largest community garden in the state.

TUESDAYS & THURSDAYS

Join us in Town Center Park on Tuesday or Thursday nights to witness the largest cornhole league gathering in Gwinnett, go for a run with the Suwanee Run Club, and simply enjoy the people watching. Grab an alcoholic beverage of your choice from one of the local merchants – it’s totally okay to take it into the park on these nights!

DEWEY  <3 THE LIBRARY? YES WE DO!

Suwanee is home to the most popular branch of the Gwinnett County Library System! Run off some energy at PlayTown, stop in for story time, check out a few books, then walk across to Town Center for a yummy frozen treat!

NOTHING BEETS A GOOD FARMERS MARKET

Fresh produce, lovely flowers, and yummy baked goods are always in season in Suwanee! The local Farmers Market is open every Saturday morning from 8 a.m. until noon through September 30, and the winter Farmers Market is the second Saturday of each month from 9-11 a.m. from October through April. Locavores rejoice!

SCULPTOUR PUBLIC ART EXHIBIT

Twenty or so prominent new residents have moved into Suwanee! The fifth installment of the city’s popular SculpTour temporary sculpture exhibition was installed in early May 2017. Since 2011, the award-winning SculpTour program has brought 79 sculptures to a walkable one-mile area of downtown Suwanee, not to mention the 11 pieces in the city’s permanent collection.

A PRESENCE BEYOND NORMAL BUSINESS HOURS

Visitors and locals are welcomed to the City of Suwanee not by a boring desk with pamphlets and maps, but with a high-energy, beautiful, art-filled space in Town Center. A unique partnership with the city allows the North Gwinnett Arts Association to have muchneeded studio and class space in Town Center, while also creating and staffing a welcome center for the city.
