CITY SPOTLIGHT: SUGAR HILL

HERE’S WHAT WE DIG:

IF THIS TREE COULD TALK
Champion Red Oak Tree
With a circumference as big as a full-size SUV and
estimated to be almost two hundred years old, this
majestic Red Oak tree could be one of the state’s
oldest (and biggest) of its kind. Recently crowned
with a historical marker, the city hopes to turn it
into a downtown pocket park.

DOWNTOWN MUSIC VIBES
The Bowl, Music at Sugar Hill and Sugar Hill Live
For a unique outdoor concert experience under
the stars, take in a show at The Bowl. BYOB or treat
yourself to food trucks and concessions onsite.
Upcoming performers include The Beach Boys,
Melissa Etheridge and KT Tunstall. Or, check out Music
at Sugar Hill and Sugar Hill Live on the Promenade
featuring live music every other week.

FEEL THE RUSH
Sugar Rush Arts Festival
Every October, performing arts, local
artists and food vendors take over
downtown Sugar Hill. In its ninth year,
festival-goers can enjoy mixed media
displays at the Art Gallery or participate
in family-friendly activities like
pumpkin painting and arcade games

CHIC BOUTIQUE
The Perazim
Make a visit and you’ll most certainly meet the
charming mother-daughter team behind this
chic clothing and lifestyle boutique. Shop from a
colorful assortment of trendy, high-end apparel and
accessories featuring handbags, candles, home decor
and local artisan jewelry. There’s even a play area for
toddlers so mom can shop uninhibited.

BLITZKRIEG BREWS
Sugar Hill Distillery
From home-brewing out of a garage to becoming
the nation’s first distillery to produce fine spirits and
German-style beer using the same equipment, Sugar
Hill Distillery has made a name for itself in Gwinnett
County. It’s also home to Apparition Brewing,
where patrons can glimpse the distillery through
glass windows. The family-style seating encourages
community, just like traditional Biergartens.

SWEET SWEAT
E Center
This 30,000-square-foot mixed-
use destination was a whopper
of an addition to the downtown
district. Alongside premier eateries,
boutiques and office suites, the E
Center is a community gym with a
basketball court, fitness equipment,
an indoor padded track and almost
any other piece of sweat-inducing
gear imaginable.

SING LIKE A BIRD
The Eagle Theater
A visual icon of W. Broad St. and the
primary driver of arts and entertainment
in the SHINE district, the Eagle Theater
offers various plays, concerts and movies.
Geometric shapes, rich colors and exquisite
gold accents characterize the theater’s art
deco look. With 406 seats, the Eagle is an
excellent spot for intimate performances.
