If you’ve never strolled about one of the many town centers in Gwinnett, you’re missing out. These walkable districts are veritable treasure troves for unique eateries and one-of-a-kind shops, yet many Gwinnettians don’t even realize they’re there. We’re all about supporting our local flavor, so come step back from the mall with us and #shopsmall!
Parson’s Alley / Downtown Duluth
If you want to live it up in the city, Downtown Duluth is where it’s at! The poster child for revitalization, it seems every time you blink there is a new shop or restaurant opening up. This month alone Duluth gained three new restaurants in Nacho Daddy, Main St. Mediterranean and Local on North, and before that added Truck & Tap and Hello Rainbow, a children’s book and toy boutique. Personify Shop will help you “be you” with unique apparel and gifts, while The Farmhouse is full of vintage finds. Downtown Duluth is 100 percent pedestrian-friendly; the entire strip sits within a 0.1 by 0.2 mile area, with an Uber/Lyft drop-off/pick-up conveniently located in Parson’s Alley. There are also plenty of opportunities for entertainment, from Eddie Owen Presents at the Red Clay Music Foundry and the stage at the Festival Center on the Town Green to busking-friendly sidewalks. Don’t forget to cap the night with a pint from Good Word Brewing!
Downtown Norcross
The new Norcross campaign #shopsavordiscover couldn’t be more apt to describe this remarkable town center. It’s rare these days to find such an authentic, historical downtown district, especially one that is still thriving with culture and energy, but in Historic Downtown Norcross you truly have it all! History buffs and sports fans find common ground at Chases’ Grille and Wingery at the old cotton gin, while The Crossing blends rustic with modern through its renovation of the old train depot. Immerse yourself in the rich cultural flavors of Norcross’ diverse neighborhoods through Taste of Britain, Mojito’s and many others, then discover chic, vintage decor at Antique Traditions and colorful, modern creations at Anna Balkan’s Jewelry Gallery. With merchants celebrating both their 50th anniversaries (B&W Automotive) and their first (The O Gallery), we think you’ll find there’s no place quite like this small town gem!
Suwanee Town Center
What do you do when your city doesn’t really have a downtown? Make one! Located at the intersection of Lawrenceville-Suwanee Road and Buford Highway, Suwanee’s built-from-scratch Town Center represents a bold and innovative response to the city’s need for a “front yard”– a place for residents and visitors alike to gather and participate in the energy of Suwanee’s vibrant growth. On this 63-acre plot, you’ll find townhomes and condominiums, your neighborhood dentist and barbershop (among other office space), restaurants and independently-owned shops, and of course tons and tons of green space! The central ten-acre park includes a splash pad, incredible public art and an amphitheatre, but its main claim to fame is being the location of Suwanee’s Food Truck Friday series every summer. Pet lovers will love Pooch N Paws, the all-things-pet boutique, and those who crave the sweets will be in heaven thanks to Rocket Fizz (candy and soda), Yogli Mogli (fro-yo) and Rita’s (Italian ice). There are running stores and consignment shops, not to mention women’s apparel galore…really, there’s not much you can’t find in Suwanee Town Center!
Downtown Lawrenceville
There’s no shortage of great local eateries on the historic square that encircles the old county courthouse (now an event venue and museum). It’s a foodie’s paradise! From the best chicken salad you’ve ever tasted (Blue Rooster) to hip gastropubs (Local Republic), Downtown Lawrenceville is the perfect place to grab a quick bite or sit down for the ultimate urban dining experience. Strange Taco, Universal Joint, McCray’s Tavern, Oyster Bay, La Cazuela, the list of authentic, never-heard-of-the-word-chain restaurants goes on and on. When you’re not stuffing your face (hey, no judgment), enjoy a show at Aurora Theatre or have a wander through Liberty Books and Galactic Quest. You can find something sweet smelling at the Bath and Body Bar, or even get crafty at AR Workshop’s DIY studio. And the best is yet to come…development at South Lawn is already underway!
And there’s more coming soon!
